What to Bring to Saona Island
Saona is a full-day trip: about 10 hours from the moment we pick you up at your hotel in Punta Cana until you are back. This page tells you what to pack, what is already included and how the day goes, so you arrive ready.

What to bring to Saona Island
Keep it light. A small backpack is enough for everything on this list.
- Your swimsuit, already on under your clothes. You get in the water soon after you arrive.
- A towel. You can bring the one from your hotel. You need it at the natural pool and on the beach.
- Sunscreen.
- Sunglasses and a cap or hat. Fasten them on the catamaran: the wind takes whatever is loose.
- Water shoes or sandals.
- A dry change of clothes for the way back.
- A sealed bag for your phone.
- Something to snack on. Several hours pass between the pickup and lunch.
- Some cash. On the island there are massages, a photographer and some special drinks that are not in the price.
Tip: have a good breakfast at the hotel. The morning is long before the Dominican lunch.

How the day goes
Pickup
I arrange your pickup at your hotel, or at the nearest meeting point. It is early, because the bus gathers the rest of the group.
The road to Bayahibe
An hour and a half down to Bayahibe, which is where the sea begins. We stop halfway.
The port and your wristband
Check-in and the group wristband, in a harbor with many boats. Stay with your guide: they take you straight to your boat.
The catamaran, with music
The way out is by catamaran, with music and cold drinks, with no hurry to get there.
The natural pool
A sandbar in the middle of the sea, with starfish on the bottom.
Saona and lunch
Kilometers of white sand and clear water. We eat in that same spot, under a gazebo.
The way back, by speedboat
The return is by speedboat. It is shorter than the way out, so you reach the transport sooner.
Questions people ask
When is lunch?
When we arrive on the island. It is a Dominican lunch served under a gazebo.
Are drinks included?
Yes. There is an open bar with local drinks during the day: rum, beer and soft drinks, on the boat and on the island.
Can I bring a backpack?
Yes. A small backpack is enough for your towel, a change of clothes and your phone.
Is there anything I pay for separately?
Yes. On the island there are massages, a photographer and some special drinks that are not included in the price. If you are interested, bring a little cash.
Do we go and return on the same boat?
No. The trip to the island is by catamaran, with music and drinks, at a relaxed pace. The return is by speedboat.
Why does the bus stop at so many hotels?
Because the bus picks up all the travelers in the group at their hotels before it takes the highway. That is why the pickup is early.
